So your son is Bald

Teenage boys losing their hair isn’t very common, however it is one of the most devastating things that a parent will have to go through.

I say parents because they’re the first ones to freak out.  It seems they feel a sense of failure for their young son and think that he won’t be able to overcome it.  What’s worse, is they hope it’s a health related issue and not something happening naturally.  I’ve got news for you parents; it’s natural and it’s not going to go away.

So what can you do as a parent of a young man with hair loss?  The first step is to build his confidence and let him know that he’s just as handsome with hair as he is without.  This may seem like your patronizing him; however, it’s very important.

The next step is to get that boy a hair-cut.  There is nothing worse for hair loss then a cover-up.  The biggest mistake men make is to see how long they can grow their existing hair.  This makes their hair appear even thinner than it really is.  Be sure to take him to a Barber; they’re use to this kind of situation.

Let him know it’s time to hang-up the baseball cap.  A hat of any sort will destroy any confidence that he may still have. Using a ball cap to conceal baldness will do nothing to promote his social life.

If your son is still taking his hair loss to heart you can start thinking of minoxidil.  If he’s less than 18 years of age, it’s essential that he visits a Dermatologist before starting any treatment.  There are very minimum risks, and you will need to explain to your boy that once he starts this process, he will always need to use it to maintain new hair growth.
