I tried Organin in hopes of finding a product for quick concealing of bald spots and thinning patches on my head. The product is sold in the form of a powder that’s used in conjunction with a hair spray. It’s applied to the existing hair surrounding the bald spot or thin patch you want to conceal. Organin is made primarily of natural rayon fibers, and is available in eight shades, which you may blend to create a shade that matches your natural hair color – Note: I had a heck of a time matching my hair color! Because Organin washes out with each shampoo, it’s only a temporary solution for hair loss problems. However, many use Organin in conjunction with hair transplant, or with a topical hair regrowth solution such as Minoxidil.
Organin powder contains the following ingredients:
- - Rayon, cotton, nylon, keratin, ammonium chloride, silica
- - Depending on the color, Organin may contain: FD&C yellow #5, FD&C green #3, FD&C blue #1, D&C orange #4, D&C red #22.
Organin is available in the following colors:
- Black
- Dark Brown
- Medium Brown
- Light Brown
- Brown
- Ash Blonde
- Dark Blonde
- Light Gray
- Clear
How does Organin work?
The fibers in Organin bind to your existing hair. This creates a layer of hair-like fibers that blend in with your natural hair.
Product Use
- For best results, wash, dry, and style hair before applying Organin.
- Apply Organin by sprinkling it over the area you want to conceal until your scalp is covered.
- Gently pat the area you have concealed with Organin. This helps the Organin to blend in with your natural hair.
- Apply hair spray over the area you have concealed with Organin.
The application of Organin should last through your normal daily activities, and you should not need to reapply until the next time you wash your hair.
Cost of Organin
A 90-day supply of Organin is sold in a 28-gram package for $19.95. This includes the powder only, not the hair spray that is to be used in conjunction with Organin.
Side effects
There is a very low risk of side effects because Organin does not contain active ingredients that treat hair loss.
Effectiveness
Many people are happy with the results they get from Organin. Some of the most satisfied users of Organin mention that the product is a good lower-cost alternative to Toppik, which is another product for concealing hair loss. Unlike Toppik, which contains fibers derived from wool, the rayon fibers in Organin are not as likely to be allergenic. For many users of Organin, the application procedure is easy, the appearance of Organin very similar to natural hair, and they find it to be long lasting and durable after application.
However, some users have mentioned a few problems with Organin. I found that Organin does not have a natural appearance, and that it does not last over the course of normal daily activities. Another issue is that it can be difficult to find a color match. A few users have mentioned problems with the packaging of Organin. They’re unhappy with an apparent redesign of the Organin bottle, and they find that it’s hard to dispense just the right amount of powder. Also, I don’t like the opaqueness of the Organin bottle, which makes it impossible to see how much product is remaining. The hair spray that is to be applied after the Organin powder must be purchased separately, which I find very inconvenient.
Conclusion
Although not all users have been satisfied with Organin, we can recommend it as a good, relatively low-cost alternative for those looking for a product to conceal hair loss or thinning.
