Do we ever rate a hair loss treatment positively. The answer is that we do (rarely). Why don’t we recommend the product on this page? We’re looking for clinically-researched ingredients, at the clinical dosage. There are a few hair loss products that have chosen to take this high road, and our favorite is Provillus. I wish I could say that I didn’t get a little bit excited opening the fancy package that my Min New York’s Agent came in. I always preach against getting your hope’s up with ingenious marketing, but c’mon, there has to be some legitimacy to a company that goes all-out for making there products cosmetically appealing right? Don’t I wish….DON”T I WISH!
MiN New York’s Agent is just another topical hair loss treatment for men. We all know that men’s hair loss products are typically aimed at treating male pattern baldness which is caused by hair follicles with a genetic sensitivity to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). This testosterone derivative causes hair follicles to become smaller until cosmetically acceptable hair growth stops. In order to allow the hair to grow, it seems that it would be necessary to block the DHT from the hair follicle. That is exactly what many of the products such as this one aim to do through a common ingredient – Minoxidil. However, this is another company that wishes to blind you by “churching” up compound names that they hope will impress you. Well, if I’m not impressed, then neither should you.
MiN New York lists the following as their key ingredients in this product:
• 5% Minoxidil. This ingredient pops up on the ingredients label for most hair loss products for male pattern baldness. It is only approved for use in men. Interestingly, Minoxidil was originally used to treat high blood pressure and reversing baldness was an unintended side effect. Wow, lucky guys – healthy AND hairy, all in one fell swoop!
• 2% Kopexil (also known as Aminexil SP94). This patented ingredient was developed by L’Oreal. It is supposed to help prevent the stiffening and premature aging of the hair roots which can lead to hair loss.
• 2% Procapil. MiN New York claim that “this patented ingredient helps slow the aging effects of hair by lessening DHT production.” However, the official site for Procapil, a combination of vitaminated biotinyl tripeptide-1 with apigenin and oleanolic acid, states that it facilities cellular communications normally impaired by DHT. This site also indicates that research into this patented ingredient was done using a product with 3% Procapil. And even with this research, the results from this ingredient were less than stellar.
• 2% Copper Peptide Y3. MiN New York indicates that this ingredient “introduces copper ions into the hair follicle area to inhibit DHT production in the scalp and activate the natural repair process that rebuilds and renews hair.” This substance has been found useful in healing wounds. As an unintended side effect, researchers also found it helps body hair re-grow. It turns out that it helps stimulate follicles and help them grow back faster. Although research does not necessarily suggest that this ingredient does all that MiN New York states that it does, Copper Peptide Y3 does appear to have some beneficial properties.
Thick and sticky. That’s how this stuff feels. That’s probably why they suggest you put it on at night and wash it off in the morning. Otherwise, you’ll go around looking greasy and stiff.
The price of the Agent is comparable to other similar products on the market. It is $36.00 for 2oz. However, potentially unlike other products, the Agent is extremely thick can be difficult to get out of the pump. You may find yourself cutting the bottle open to scrape the last little bit out with a spatula! In other words this product is a lot more expensive then other comparable products.
Overall, MiN New York Agent’s ingredients are average at best. As with many hair loss products, in addition to ingredients there are other factors that a user considers such as price, ease of application, and consistency of the product. In these areas, MiN New York is not a leader of the pack and does not receive my endorsement.
