Revivogen Thickening Conditioner

Monday, September 29th, 2008

When you’re choosing products to treat hair loss and optimize the appearance of your hair, it’s important to choose even your styling products and shampoos carefully. Revivogen Thickening Conditioner is a product that was designed for the special concerns of those with hair loss or thinning. It contains no active ingredients that treat hair loss problems, though it can be used with hair loss treatment products. It’s supposed to add volume and shine, while replenishing and strengthening your hair. But we find that this product falls short of these promises!

ScalpMed

Friday, September 26th, 2008

The ScalpMed system is a hair loss remedy for both men and women. Because its active ingredient is minoxidil, different formulas are available for men and women. This three step program claims it is designed to address hair loss from every possible angle. The first step is Nutrisol-RF or RM (depending on gender) which is intended to provide nutrients to the hair follicle. The next step is Vitadil 2A or 5A (again depending on gender); this is the action step in the stopping of hair loss and the beginning of the re-growth process. This product contains minoxidil. Finally, a cortex enlarger is designed to increase hair volume. Together the products claim to lead to thicker, clean, and beautiful hair.

Minoxidil

Saturday, September 20th, 2008

Minoxidil is touted as one of the best solutions to hair loss available. We will look at the claims made regarding Minoxidil, including clinical studies, side effects and application process in this evaluation. Minoxidil has been used to treat hair loss and baldness since the 1980s. It is available as a topical solution or as a foam that is applied to the scalp and left on for a period of four hours before being rinsed off. It is generally used in a 5% concentration for men and a 2% concentration for women. It isn’t clear exactly how Minoxidil works, but it is believed that it is related to its chemical structure, which contains the chemical structure of nitric oxide and may be that of a nitric oxide agonist. That means it bonds to nitric oxide, which is a known vasodilator- or a chemical that relaxes the smooth muscle in blood vessels, causing them to dilate. By bonding to nitric acid, minoxidil would actually increase the ability of nitric oxide to dilate blood vessels. When the blood vessels are dilated, they are able to nourish the hair follicles on the scalp, thereby sustaining hair growth and inhibiting hair loss.

We think it should be patent pending indefinitely! We’re not impressed with this product, and we’ll go into the reasons below.
